Golden and the surrounding foothills provide many places to hike. However, when hiking, bring lots of water and a jacket as you never know what the weather may be like in a few hours. Beware of rattlesnakes (see wild animal section). Finally, do not drink any water from mountain streams or rivers. The water can look very clear and inviting, but almost always contains numerous bacteria.
